Colossus’ was inspired by a moment on safari when I found myself face-to-face with this magnificent elephant. Unlike the many groups I often saw, he stood apart, immense and steady, a true giant of the Valley. Painting him was about more than size—it was about capturing his presence, the wisdom in his eyes, and the quiet strength that spoke louder than any roar. In many ways, Colossus reminds me of the power of stillness, and how standing strong in who we are can be its own form of courage.
