‘Ching’ombe Welcome’ was inspired by the unforgettable greeting we received when our bus pulled into Ching’ombe village. People from several villages had gathered, meeting us with song, dance, and an overwhelming sense of joy. It was both heart-warming and humbling to feel such vibrant cheer from a community still waiting for something as essential as fresh water. In this painting, I wanted to honour their spirit the way hope and resilience can shine even in the face of hardship, and how love can be the strongest welcome of all.
